METHOD & programs

BASIC PROGRAM
In the Basic Program we teach the basic principles of self-defense and the development of techniques for a wide variety of strokes, promoting increased dexterity, speed and flexibility. For a student who attends classes at least three times a week, to complete all the requirements of this module the estimated time is an average of eight weeks.

Concepts covered:

  • Learning basic Jiu-Jitsu;
  • Development of discipline and self-control;
  • Improvement of the quality of life;
  • Improvement in general physical fitness of agility and dexterity;
  • Team work;
  • Increased coordination and balance;
  • Increased focus and attention;
  • Improved confidence and self-esteem;
  • Leadership and cooperation development;
Intermediate Program

After having “survived” the Basic Module, we started the Intermediate Module, which is where 90% of people define whether they will continue in Jiu Jitsu or not.

The student starts to perform a set of activities, techniques and training together with other more graduated students and already participate in the demonstration and execution of the techniques with all the other non-beginner members of the classes.

This module is also ideal for those who are not practicing and want to return because the learning is done in a progressive way and is shaping the style of the student who, after developing a reasonable base of Jiu-Jitsu during the Basic Module, begins to understand the dynamics of fight, to define his “game” and will be prepared to enter the Advanced Module.

Advanced Program

The structure of the Advanced Program involves all the knowledge achieved in the previous Modules, featuring a natural progression that is evaluated according to the maturity and development of each individual student.

Based on the teaching and application of techniques at a high level, the student is taken to practices that shape the struggle with the improvement of reflexes, speed, reaction time and transitions between one context and another: what to do, when to do it and how to do it, according to the opponent’s action / reaction.

And finally it provides the student with a greater understanding of the philosophy of the Delariva School, the importance of discipline, humility and respect. And it still enters the phase of cooperation and understanding of the struggle itself, giving meaning to its practice with healthy habits leading to an improvement in physical shape and quality of life.

KIDS PROGRAM

The Children’s Program mainly covers the three basic pillars of any martial art: Humility, Respect and Discipline.

Dividing the class into two groups (4 to 6 years old and 7 to 12 years old), we present these concepts in a playful way, mixing the basic teachings of self-defense with the various techniques of Jiu Jitsu, always reinforcing the one we never know the enough (humility to recognize that full knowledge is intangible), that we must respect both those who teach us (our Teachers, Masters and our parents) as well as our opponents and training companions (without whom we will never be able to evolve) beyond the need focus and attention on what is being transmitted not only inside our Dojo but also at home and in the classrooms.

The Children’s Module provides children with:

  • Learning Jiu Jitsu and Self Defense;
  • Development of discipline and self-control;
  • Improvement of the quality of life;
  • Improvement in general physical fitness;
  • Increased coordination and balance;
  • Development of agility and dexterity;
  • In this way, we increase our possibilities to train great people for the world.

Female Program

The Delariva Jiu Jitsu School has a special module for women who want to not only learn a martial art but also improve their physical conditioning.

The Female Program has two objectives: to provide knowledge in Self Defense and to provide the practice of a fight that proposes intense exercises that guarantee good shape and the maintenance of health: Jiu Jitsu.

However, it is worth mentioning that the instruction given to all students is to not react unless in the last case. Self-defense should only occur when you are completely sure that the aggressor is not carrying any type of weapon and that it is a matter of survival. Our art privileges the balance and the lever system of the human body without requiring the use of force.

Reasons for women to practice Jiu Jitsu

Defend yourself

Currently, we know the importance of self-defense, especially for women. Being able to protect yourself from aggression, however it may be, can be very useful. Jiu-Jitsu is considered, among the fighting modes, the one with the most effective techniques when the fight goes to the ground. The modality proposes great techniques of self defense, based on the principle of the weakest, using levers, to finish the strongest.

Get rid of stress

Jiu Jitsu is so contagious, very different from other activities such as weight training and gymnastics, that it makes its practitioner “de-stress”. The goal of learning your blows and winning fights in class, like some games, makes the student strengthen his mind and body. A workout can be a great ally to keep calm on days when nothing seems to go right.

Weight loss

Because it is an intense activity with varied movements, it allows the practitioner to maintain the diet and lose some calories in classes that are very dynamic. An hour of Jiu Jitsu can spend 1000 calories, being a great ally to maintain a good relationship with the balance.

Make new friends

Like many other physical activities, this is a form of struggle that provides interaction between students. In Jiu Jitsu, because it is a close fight, the relationship between practitioners is a big part of the sport. Getting to the mat after a stressful day is a great environment to socialize and sleep a little happier.

Ensure mood and energy for the whole day

The activity requires a regulated life, with healthy lifestyle habits. Eating and sleeping well are essential for the student to earn in training and this contributes to greater energy and disposition in everyday life. Jiu Jitsu lifestyle goes far beyond two or three workouts per week. This lifestyle includes a new awareness of health and well-being. For us to have energy and disposition it is important to be aware of the 3 pillars for a healthier life.

Increase Safety Before People

The philosophy and training with “eye to eye” fights contribute to increase security. Thus, with the developed self-esteem and self-confidence, it becomes easier to face the challenges of everyday life. Being confident to make decisions or convey ideas is a key element for success in your personal life.

Improve cardiovascular and respiratory capabilities

Have you ever felt tired when climbing stairs? Or did you go back to exercising and it seems that it became more difficult? We must be consistent to reap the rewards of a healthier life. Your respiratory rate is a great thermometer for your fitness. As it is an intense physical activity, Jiu Jitsu contributes to physical conditioning. As the training progresses, the sport also improves the cardiorespiratory conditions of the practitioner.

Shaping and Defining the Body

Jiu Jitsu is a type of fight that works the body in general. It defines and shapes legs and arms, in addition to leaving the abdomen well worked. This is a very complete art, ideal for those who want to have a balanced body. However, it is important to remember that to avoid injuries within the sport, excellent allies are muscle strengthening exercises.

Improve Motor Coordination

Do you want to stop bumping or kicking the corner of the door? Jiu Jitsu is for you! With the increase in body awareness, you start and better understand the dimensions of your body. This type of fight provides the practitioner with the learning of principles that greatly improve the student’s motor coordination.

Improve Reflexes

Being focused and answering is necessary to practice Jiu Jitsu. As we must act faster than the opponent, being present at the moment makes the difference at the time of training and day to day. The reflexes are highly intensified in Jiu Jitsu practitioners, as the movements require attention and precision.

How about coming to take an experimental class and one of our Units in Aveiro and change your habits and philosophy of life? The practice of martial arts guarantees good results and the best, you will stay and not abandon what is very important for health today.

Posture of our Professors

The correct presentation and professional conduct of our Teachers is essential to be representative of Escola Delariva. During classes, and in any post on social networks, it is mandatory that ALL Teachers are dressed in our Official Kimono and Official RashGuards.

We have developed some standards of procedures and posture for the Teachers of our Schools, which must be followed on and off the mats.

Attention, sympathy, perception and empathy

A friendly attitude, like a smile, opens doors and encourages everyone around you to do the same. We must always have sympathy with those in our social circle: students, teachers, staff members, secretaries, receptionists, our family, etc.

A direct look at the person we are talking to already guarantees security for receiving the correct message. We know that some are more shy, that they lose focus, looking sideways or on the floor, showing insecurity. This attitude must be avoided at all costs, because in our sport safety is essential.

Students’ doubts, be they of any kind (in terms of technique, rules, academy norms, financial, etc.), must be answered correctly and safely. Of course, a question may arise and the Professor does not have the answer, but never say “I don’t know”. Instead, explain to the student that he / she does not know the information that he / she will seek to answer it as soon as possible and, if possible, giving a deadline.

Students from other academies and / or countries should be very well received at any Affiliate Delariva School. They should feel like a member of our School, being free to return whenever they wish. Remember that we also have a lot to learn from other schools and aspects of Jiu-Jitsu. The exchange of knowledge helps to improve all aspects of jiu-jitsu.

Another fundamental quality for our teachers is perception. It is essential for a good execution of the lesson plan to understand the reaction of students during the day to day. This can be useful in several situations, such as:

Transparency of security, demonstrating knowledge of techniques, products and work environment

Provide a good first impression and increase the possibility of making a good service

To better understand a situation, a difficulty, a risk by small elements, just realizing what the student wants and helping him
